Having A Personal Blog Is It Worth It?

When people first start blogging, particularly with an eye to monetise, they often focus on a niche or specific topic, and spend their time providing value and being “useful” to their audience. But recently listener Dorothy asked my opinion about personal blogs, and it’s a question I’m frequently asked: ?I’d ...more

Zopfli Optimization Literally Free Bandwidth

In 2007 I wrote about using PNGout to produce amazingly small PNG images. I still refer to this topic frequently, as seven years later, the average PNG I encounter on the Internet is very unlikely to be optimized.

For example, consider this recent Perry Bible Fellowship cartoon.

10 Bitcoin Alternatives Crypto Currency Options

Alternative currencies have a certain mystery about them. They are seen as sort of an ?underground? currency because they are not controlled by some central authority like a bank or government. Instead, they are controlled by peers who engage in transactions and/or ?mining,? which is the term for keeping the ledgers.

In a block-chain environment, every transaction is recorded with a finite number of coins in circulation, and many (in some instances all) of the peers have access to that ledger, to prevent fraud. The use of cryptography for complete security and privacy is another element that increases the aura of mystery.

In reality, alternative currencies operate on pretty simple principles of buying selling and investing. Even a few web-based e-commerce sites, like Overstock.com, now accept Bitcoin. It?s just that no government is involved. That in itself can arouse some suspicion, but Bitcoin, the oldest and most well-known alt currency, has been around long enough now that much of the suspicion has dissipated.

But now the competition has arrived, and a good number of alt currencies are now in full swing, and investors have many options. Investing in cryptocurrencies is risky, of course, but many see the long-term rise of Bitcoin value ($428.23 for 1Btc) as a sign that other fledgling alt currencies might do likewise.

What Is Vpn? Why Do We Need Them?

Why Virtual Private Networks are essential for daily internet users

Ever tried to watch a movie or stream a video only to find that it was blocked in your area? Due to copyright laws, most movies and TV shows may be available in one area, but not another. This can pose a problem when you?re traveling abroad and miss your favorite shows back home, or if you?re in a country where the government blocks certain websites.

A VPN, or virtual private network software, helps bypass these geographical restrictions by letting you connect to a server in the country of your choice. If you want to stream Monday Night Football, connect to any US server and watch the match live. If you want to watch your hometown rugby team, connect to any VPN server where they broadcast the games and stream with ease.

Professional hackers and crackers have always used VPNs as hacking tool for staying anonymous. While they?ve extremely popular among internet security books as well as security experts for years, they?re beginning to grow in popularity other demographics, mainly those who tend to travel abroad or those who want to unblock geographically restricted content. Whatever your reasoning may be, it seems like privacy services like VPNs are essential.

Not only on PCs, the VPN solutions make in the essential list of iPhone security apps as well as Android security apps.

Sounds simple, right? Not quite. VPNs do more than just unblock restricted content. Here?s how they work.
